I Switched From a $99 Greens Powder. Here’s What I Actually Found – Prime Choice Club

Premium greens powders charge up to $99 a month. But do the ingredients justify the price? Amanda from Prime Choice Club breaks down what to look for in a greens formula, why organic matters, and how Prime Choice Prime Greens stacks up.

Breaking Down Barriers: Achieving Better Health Through Practical Steps

Let’s talk about the greens powder market for a minute, because it has gotten out of hand.

The category is dominated by a handful of brands that have done an extraordinary job of marketing themselves as premium, science-backed, and worth the price. Some of them are charging $99 for a formula that leans heavily on marketing and lightly on ingredient transparency.

Wired But Tired. And Why Your Nervous System Won't Switch Off. You're doing everything right. You're still exhausted and still can't relax. Here's what's actually happening, and the formula I use every evening to fix it.

I’ve tried most of them. I’ve read the labels carefully. And what I’ve found is that the gap between the most expensive green powders and a well-formulated alternative isn’t usually in the ingredients. It’s in the brand-building budget.

Prime Choice’s Prime Greens is what I reached for and recommend to clients and friends. Here’s what makes this formula worth switching to.

What a Good Greens Powder Actually Does

Before we get into comparisons, I want to establish what we should actually expect from a greens formula, because there’s a lot of overclaiming in this space.

A good greens powder is a nutritional insurance policy. The average person, even someone eating a reasonably clean diet, often has nutritional gaps. Gaps in micronutrients, phytonutrients, antioxidant compounds that protect cells from oxidative stress, and the prebiotic and probiotic support that helps keep the gut functioning well. A daily greens powder helps fill those gaps in a convenient, concentrated form.

What a greens powder cannot do is replace real food. It can’t fix a fundamentally poor diet or substitute for adequate protein, healthy fats, or sufficient calories. But as part of a solid nutritional foundation, a well-formulated greens powder is one of the highest-value daily habits I recommend because it delivers nutrients that can be difficult to consume consistently through diet alone.

The key phrase is well-formulated. That’s where the real differences between products become meaningful.

The biggest difference between many premium greens powders and a well-designed alternative often isn’t the ingredient list; it’s how much of the price goes toward branding and marketing.

The Premium Greens Pricing Problem

AG1, the dominant player in the premium greens category, retails at around $99 per month for 30 servings, roughly $3.30 per serving.

Bloom Greens, another well-known option, typically costs around $40–45 for 25–30 servings.

These companies have built enormous brand recognition through influencer marketing, podcast sponsorships, and advertising.

None of that automatically makes a product better.

The real question is whether the formula justifies the price. And when you compare ingredient lists carefully, the answer is often more nuanced than the marketing suggests.

AG1 offers a comprehensive formula, and its NSF certification is certainly meaningful. Bloom has built a strong following but does not carry NSF certification, and its formula contains fewer functional ingredients beyond the greens themselves.

Prime Choice Prime Greens is NSF Certified and GMP Certified, made in the USA, lab tested, uses organic ingredients where possible, includes both a probiotic and an adaptogen, and is available to Prime Choice Club members at significant savings compared to retail pricing.

A Note on the Pro-Metabolic Approach to Greens

I want to address something here because it’s a question I get fairly often.

I follow a pro-metabolic nutritional framework rooted in the work of physiologist Dr. Ray Peat. My interest in thyroid health became personal after being diagnosed with a thyroid condition more than ten years ago.

Because of that, I’ve always been cautious about certain raw leafy greens, particularly brassica vegetables like kale, broccoli, and spinach, which naturally contain goitrogenic compounds that may interfere with iodine uptake when consumed in large amounts in their raw form.

Here’s what matters for a greens powder.

The drying and processing used to create powdered greens significantly reduces the activity of these compounds compared with eating large amounts of raw vegetables. At the serving sizes used in a daily greens powder, the overall exposure is substantially lower.

Prime Choice Prime Greens also contains several ingredients Dr. Ray Peat wrote positively about, including spirulina, chlorella, moringa, red beet root, turmeric, ashwagandha, and coconut water. Wheatgrass and barley grass are not brassicas and do not carry the same concern. Matcha contributes L-theanine along with naturally occurring caffeine, while organic inulin provides prebiotic support for gut health.

For most people, the broad nutritional benefits of this combination far outweigh the minimal exposure to processed brassica compounds found in a single daily serving. If you have a diagnosed thyroid condition or specific concerns, it’s always worth discussing supplementation with your healthcare practitioner.

Every Ingredient and What It’s Doing

Prime Choice Prime Greens delivers 4,180mg of organic ingredients per serving across sixteen functional compounds. Here’s what each ingredient contributes.

Organic Wheatgrass Whole Powder (Triticum aestivum)

Wheatgrass is one of the most nutrient-dense grasses available and has been used as a concentrated nutrition source for decades. It naturally provides chlorophyll, vitamins C, E, and K, iron, magnesium, and a broad spectrum of amino acids.

Research has documented wheatgrass’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, along with its role in supporting normal liver function. In a pro-metabolic framework, healthy liver function plays an important role in hormone metabolism and overall wellness.

Organic Moringa Leaf Powder (Moringa oleifera)

Moringa is one of the most nutrient-rich plants available and has a growing body of research behind it. It contains all nine essential amino acids, making it one of the few complete plant protein sources. It’s also naturally rich in vitamin C, iron, calcium, and potassium.

Research has also explored moringa’s antioxidant activity and its ability to support healthy blood sugar metabolism, making it a valuable ingredient for overall metabolic health.

Organic Inulin (Agave tequilana)

Inulin is a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria in the gut.

Including inulin alongside Bacillus Coagulans means the formula provides both the beneficial bacteria and the nourishment they need to thrive. Research has shown that prebiotic fiber supports a healthy gut microbiome, digestion, immune function, and overall digestive balance.

Organic Red Beet Root Powder (Beta vulgaris)

Red beet root is one of the most well-researched ingredients for cardiovascular performance.

Its naturally occurring nitrates convert into nitric oxide, helping support healthy blood flow, oxygen delivery, and normal blood pressure. Beet root also provides antioxidants through its betalain pigments while supporting normal liver function.

Organic Spinach Powder (Spinacia oleracea)

Spinach powder delivers iron, folate, vitamin K, and lutein in a concentrated form.

Folate supports normal cellular function, while lutein is well known for supporting eye and brain health. Research has linked higher lutein intake with healthy cognitive function across adulthood.

Organic Broccoli Powder (Brassica oleracea)

Broccoli powder provides naturally occurring sulforaphane precursors and indole-3-carbinol, compounds associated with healthy liver detoxification pathways and normal estrogen metabolism.

Although broccoli naturally contains goitrogenic compounds, the drying and powdering process significantly reduces their activity compared to consuming large amounts of raw broccoli.

Organic Barley Grass Juice Powder (Hordeum vulgare)

Barley grass is a rich source of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD), which helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

It also naturally supplies chlorophyll, B vitamins, and silica, making it a valuable addition to a comprehensive greens formula.

Organic Spirulina Powder (Arthrospira platensis)

Spirulina is one of the most nutrient-dense ingredients in the entire formula.

It contains all essential amino acids, provides iron and B vitamins, and is naturally rich in phycocyanin—an antioxidant pigment studied for its anti-inflammatory properties. Spirulina is widely recognized as one of the most valuable ingredients found in quality greens powders.

Organic Kale Powder (Brassica oleracea)

Kale contributes vitamins K, C, and A, along with lutein, zeaxanthin, and quercetin.

Like broccoli, kale contains naturally occurring goitrogenic compounds, but these are substantially reduced during the dehydration process. At the serving sizes used in this formula, the nutritional benefits outweigh potential concerns for most healthy adults.

Organic Coconut Water Powder (Cocos nucifera)

Coconut water powder provides naturally occurring electrolytes including potassium, sodium, magnesium, and calcium to support hydration and electrolyte balance.

It also contributes a small amount of naturally occurring carbohydrate that supports steady daily energy.

Organic Matcha Tea Powder (Camellia sinensis)

Matcha offers a unique combination of naturally occurring caffeine and L-theanine, helping provide calm, focused energy without the sharp spike often associated with coffee.

It also supplies catechins, including EGCG, which contribute to its well-known antioxidant properties.

Organic Chlorella Powder (Chlorella vulgaris)

Chlorella works alongside spirulina to provide complementary nutritional benefits.

It’s especially valued for its chlorophyll content and has been studied for its role in supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes. Together, chlorella and spirulina create a well-rounded algae blend within the formula.

Organic Turmeric Powder (Curcuma longa)

Turmeric is one of the most extensively researched botanical ingredients available.

Its naturally occurring curcuminoids have been widely studied for their potential to support the body’s healthy inflammatory response. Using the whole root also provides the broader spectrum of naturally occurring compounds found in turmeric.

Organic Lemon Juice Powder (Citrus limon)

Lemon juice powder provides vitamin C, citric acid, and naturally occurring citrus bioflavonoids.

In addition to supporting normal cellular energy pathways, it also contributes to the fresh citrus flavor without relying on artificial flavoring.

Organic Ashwagandha Powder (Withania somnifera)

Ashwagandha is the adaptogen in the formula and one of its standout ingredients.

Research has shown it may help support the body’s response to everyday stress while promoting healthy cortisol balance, sleep quality, and overall well-being. For many adults navigating the demands of everyday life, it’s a meaningful addition to a daily greens formula.

Organic Flax Seed Powder (Linum usitatissimum)

Flax seed provides lignans, soluble fiber, and plant-based omega-3 fatty acids.

It supports healthy digestion while providing nutrients that contribute to overall hormonal and metabolic wellness.

Bacillus Coagulans (Probiotic)

Bacillus Coagulans is a spore-forming probiotic, meaning it survives stomach acid more effectively than many traditional probiotic strains.

Because it remains stable during processing and storage, it reaches the digestive tract where it can help support gut health, digestive comfort, and immune function.

Why I Recommend Prime Greens

I’ve spent more than two decades helping people improve their health through training, nutrition, and sustainable habits.

When I recommend a supplement, I look for a few things:

  • A comprehensive ingredient profile
  • Clinically relevant ingredients
  • High manufacturing standards
  • Transparent formulation
  • A price that people can realistically stick with over time

Prime Greens checks those boxes.

If you’re currently comparing green powders, I’d encourage you to look beyond the marketing and compare the actual formulas, certifications, ingredient quality, and overall value.

That’s where meaningful differences begin to appear.

Final Thoughts

A quality greens powder won’t replace a healthy diet, but it can help fill everyday nutritional gaps.

Prime Greens combines 16 carefully selected ingredients, including organic greens, probiotics, adaptogens, and electrolytes, in one convenient daily serving.

Before buying, compare both the ingredients and the overall value. Sometimes you’re paying more for the brand than the formula.
